The three Wiltshire films, taken using a drone, illustrate Wiltshire’s timeless brand positioning, focusing on the county’s Timeless Wonders, Timeless Pleasures, Timeless Nature and Timeless Places. They also align with VisitBritain’s Countryside is GREAT campaign. The films are themed and titled as follows:
- Exploring Wiltshire’s Kennet & Avon Canal from the air
- Wiltshire’s White Horses – iconic views of the landscape
- Wiltshire’s ancient hill forts – an aerial perspective.
Fiona Errington, VisitWiltshire’s Marketing Manager says, “Visitors like to see different iconic Wiltshire landmarks on film that they can picture themselves experiencing. These aerial films give a very unique perspective of our vast rural landscape which will encourage visitors to explore and enjoy our beautiful countryside.”
Wiltshire’s famous landmarks including Battlesbury Camp, Old Sarum, Barbury Castle, Oldbury Castle, Bratton Camp and the Kennet & Avon Canal are featured. The Wiltshire White Horses include Westbury, Devizes, Hackpen and Cherhill.
VisitWiltshire’s first of three films – ‘Exploring the Kennet & Avon Canal’ – is now available to view with the other films being released later this summer.

LOEN SKYLIFT – FROM FJORD TO SKY IN 5
On May 20 the new cable car in Loen in the Nordfjord area in Norway will be ready to welcome travelers from all over the world. The official name is Loen Skylift, and will carry visitors on the world’s steepest aerial ropeway, more than 3,300 feet above the Nordfjord, providing breathtaking views over the fjord landscape.
“Loen Skylift is the quickest and easiest way to explore the best of what Norway’s mountains have to offer. The trip from the fjord to the peak only takes a few minutes. High, steep and safe, you will be brought 3,300 feet up to Mount Hoven” says Richard Grov, General Manager of Loen Skylift.
On its fastest, the journey takes only 5 minutes, and the aim is to transport more than 40,000 visitors up and down already this year. Loen Skylift will operate all year round.
Her Royal Majesty Queen Sonja will officially open the Skylift
Her Royal Majesty Queen Sonja, who is celebrating her 80th birthday together with His Royal Majesty King Harald in May, will officially open the Skylift on May 20, 2017. “We are deeply honored that Her Majesty the Queen will be with us on this important day. It will be a grand event that we are really looking forward to”, says Richard Grov.
A future icon
“ Loen Skylift makes the fantastic nature experiences in the area accessible to all. We have the belief that this will become a big favorite in the future”, says Ms. Bente Bratland Holm, Director of Tourism at VisitNorway. Kristian Jorgensen, Director of Fjord Norway agrees. “The view is breathtaking, with beautiful fjords in all directions, spectacular mountains and the Jostedalsbreen Glacier as a backdrop. This is undoubtedly one of Scandinavia’s most exciting travel experiences”.
Local food and mountain adventures
From Mount Hoven you have access to several miles of built and sign posted hiking trails, and in winter you can go snowshoeing, cross country skiing and ski touring. The popular climbing route Via Ferrata Loen, with Gjolmunnebrua suspension bridge (the longest Via Ferrata bridge in Europe), is ending up at Mount Hoven. Once you arrive at the top, you can enjoy fine dining with local ingredients at the mountain restaurant at the edge of the cliff, before taking the cable car back to Loen.
